Kuala Selangor is a town located in Selangor, Malaysia. Kuala Selangor is the capital of an administrative district of the same name. "Kuala" means river mouth in the Malay language, and Kuala Selangor is a small town where the Selangor River (Sungai Selangor) meets the sea. Kuala Selangor is a coastal town located about 50 km north of Klang, 63 km from Shah Alam, the capital of Selangor, and about 70 km from Kuala Lumpur. Kuala Selangor was the old royal capital of Selangor prior to moving to Klang, then to Kuala Lumpur, and finally to Shah Alam.

According to historical records, Kuala Selangor has been inhabited since the 16th century. It was once under the rule of the Malacca Empire and later served as the old royal capital of Selangor. In 1784, Kuala Selangor was conquered by the Dutch, who sought to expand their base in Malacca (Melaka) and gain a share of the tin trade from Perak and Selangor.

Bukit Melawati, a hill overlooking Kuala Selangor and the Strait of Malacca, played a significant role during this period. The Dutch destroyed the existing fortifications on the hill during their 1784 invasion and built a European-style fortress named Fort Altingsburg, after their commander. By the end of the 18th century, the Bugis took control of the area, and in 1857, the Selangor government was established.

Located off the usual tourist route, Kuala Selangor retains its traditional kampung (village) charm. The town mainly attracts visitors en route to see the famous fireflies (kelip-kelip) at Kampung Kuantan, while locals frequent it for its fresh seafood. The town is small and easy to explore on foot without a map or guide.

With its rich historical background, Kuala Selangor is home to several heritage sites concentrated around Bukit Melawati. In addition, it offers a variety of attractions such as the Kuala Selangor Nature Park, Firefly Park, Sky Mirror, Blue Tears, and Eagle Feeding. The town’s delicious fresh seafood also remains one of its main highlights.
